FEESH is my 2D Animated film, which I created through my senior year at Lesley University College of Art and Design.
“ Inspired,” by real-life events, the story is about penguins who fight for their needs and desires (even when those desires are selfish). When initializing the story's concept, my professors gave us prompts to try out to help spark ideas. One that struck me was basing the short around current news.
In the summer of 2022, a small viral video of penguins from the Hakone-en Aquarium in Japan was being shared around. Due to the global pandemics effect on the economy, zoos around the world had to fix pricing on food for their animals. When served fish that wasn't what they were used too, penguins in Hakone-en refused it very comically. I wanted to play around with this story but in a more hyper stylized fashion.
The bumper below was created for Lesley University's Senior Animation Showcase 2023, where the short was originally debuted at.
I wanted to explore to what extent I could play around with that idea. Here is some early concepting of the penguin's along with the zookeeper's designs.
